New manure storage rules would only impact some farmers

Below are highlights of a news report that aired on WQOW on September 17, 2019.

Wisconsin farmers are on different sides when it comes to new manure storage rules. But in Eau Claire County, land conservation officials said the regulations won’t make a difference.

The new rule would make new farms with at least 500 animals, as well as established farms looking to expand to that number, place manure storage facilities anywhere from 600 to 2,500 feet from their neighbors’ property line.

Groups like the Wisconsin Dairy Alliance and Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation are against the new rules, and said it would make expansion near impossible and drive farmers out of Wisconsin.
